Primary Peritoneal Cancer

Postby jkhoo » Thu Jan 07, 2010 11:01 am

Hi everyone,

my mother has just been diagnosed with Primary Peritoneal Cancer, which as I understand, is for all means and purposes treated the same way Ovarian Cancer is. The doctors have explained that instead of beginning in the ovary itself, her cancer has begun in the peritoneum, or the lining of the abdonimal cavity. Her CA125 levels are very high and we are beginning chemotherapy at Mount E next week with a Taxol + Carboplatin regimen

I am hoping to find other people who have had family members/friends in the same situation for mutual support, or if nothing, to just make friends with people who may be in a position to understand and maybe lend some hope and positive thoughts to my family at this moment, especially to my mother.

Please feel free to private message or post on this thread.

Much thanks,
Joyce

Hi Joyce,

How are you?

It's great that you took a step forward and post your concerns :)

Primary peritoneal cancer arises primarily from peritoneal cells.
This is a much rarer cancer which usually affects postmenopausal women.

The membrane of PPC and the lining of ovary come from the same embryologic origin.
Treatment of PPC is very similar to that of epithelial ovarian cancer.

A combination of drugs may be used as chemotherapy regime for your mother's condition, such as Taxol and Carboplatin which would be administered to your mother.

Ensuring adequate nutrition is very vital. We are going to have a nutrition support group conducted by a dietician. Many other cancer patients and caregivers would be attending too. If you would like to join us, the details are as below:

13 January 2010 (Wednesday)
9.30-11.30am
Mount Elizabeth Hospital Level 2 Seminar Room

You could immediately call CanHOPE at (65) 67389333 to register as seats are filling up fast :)

Cheers

Hi Joyce,
I was diagnosed with PPC (primary peritoneal cancer) in May of 2009 so I know what you and your family are going through. I had a cytoreduction surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemo, how are they going to treat your mom? If you want to know details I will be happy to share my experience with you. By the way I am 38 yrs old and now 5 mo cancer free.
